I. INCIDENT BRIEF

|
At approximately 1630 on July 4, 2022, the GRACE BAILEY ran aground off of Scott's Island near Stonington, ME. The vessel waited until high tide and refloated at approximately 0330 on July 5, 2022 and anchored at 0345 in Stonington Harbor. The crew did not detect any damage or flooding once the vessel was refloated. A MSD Investigator and Inspector responded at approximately 0930 on July 5, 2022 to conduct interviews and assess any damage. MSD Inspector also required a diver to inspect the hull and for the crew to conduct a check ride with MSD inspector and investigator onboard. There was minor, superficial damage to keel that did not require repair. The grounding occurred approximately two hours prior to notification to the Coast Guard. MSD Belfast received the CG-2692 on 08JULY2022.
As a result of its investigation, the Coast Guard has determined this incident met the criteria of a reportable marine casualty. The level of investigation met the requirements for a Data Collection as it involved an unintended grounding with no damage that would render the boat inoperable.
